Overview - Alnico Cylindrical Bar Magnet

Alnico Bar/ Rod Magnets

The alnico rod magnets are also known as alnico cylindrical magnets, alnico cylindrical bar magnets and alnico cylindrical rod magnets. They can be used at temperatures of up to +550 degrees C.

They are termed bar magnets because the distance between the poles is greater than the pole face dimensions (i.e. they are magnetised in the same direction as their longest dimension). The alnico cylindrical bar magnets are supplied as either red painted or natural finish (uncoated, unpainted).

These alnico rod magnets are very popular of sensing applications and for experimental use in schools. The alnico cylindrical bar magnets can be offered in other dimensions and grades. We supply custom made alnico magnets. You can have other colours as well if you wanted e.g. black.

Alnico cylindrical bar magnets are high-performance permanent magnets crafted from Alnico (aluminium-nickel-cobalt) alloy, known for its excellent temperature stability, resistance to demagnetisation, and long-lasting magnetic strength. These magnets are designed in a cylindrical bar shape, providing a consistent magnetic field around the magnet’s surface, making them ideal for a wide range of industrial, workshop, educational, and everyday magnetic applications.

The smooth, round profile of Alnico cylindrical bar magnets ensures uniform magnetic attraction and reliable performance when used for holding, positioning, or magnetic interaction with ferrous materials. Their robust construction and dependable magnetic properties make them suitable for both static and dynamic applications where stable magnetic contact is needed.

Alnico magnet material maintains strong magnetic performance even at elevated temperatures, outperforming many other permanent magnet types in thermal environments. This makes Alnico cylindrical bar magnets a practical choice for fixtures, tools, magnetic assemblies, test jigs, teaching aids, and general magnetic holding solutions.

Typical Applications

Alnico Cylindrical Bar Magnets are commonly used for:

  • Holding, fixturing, and positioning ferrous components

  • Magnetic assemblies and tooling in workshop and industrial environments

  • Magnetic separation and retrieval tasks

  • Educational demonstrations of magnetic principles

  • General purpose magnetic tasks in fabrication, assembly, and maintenance

Their versatile cylindrical shape and dependable magnetic force make these magnets a useful tool across engineering, technical, educational, and maker environments.

Why Choose Alnico Cylindrical Bar Magnets

Alnico cylindrical bar magnets combine uniform magnetic field distribution, thermal resilience, and durable construction in a simple but effective format. Their cylindrical geometry supports consistent holding force around the magnet’s surface, while the inherent stability of Alnico material ensures reliable performance even under thermal stress. These magnets are an excellent choice for users requiring a versatile magnetic solution that performs well in demanding conditions.
