Our Client
Collision Goll are a leading manufacturer of customised machined products from steel bar stock. Much of the work is done on a sub-contract basis. Precision standards are very high and much of the work is done drilling parts with drills only a few thousandths of an inch. The site was using a settlement tank and 50 micron filter cartridges to remove ferrous contamination.
The Challenge
The main problem was tool life. Fine ferrous contamination in the lubricant was being circulated and causing damage to the drills, as a result this led to inaccurate drilling performance and frequent drill replacement. The layout of the workshop prevents installation of a central filtration system.
The Solution
Initially the company fitted Micromag to one machine as a trial. The results were so good that within 1 week the customer bought 4 more Micromags and now plans to fit out the whole site. The Plant Manager estimated that the purchase of drill bodies was reduced by 75%.
